DAW Study Series Pt2 - Apple Logic Pro X

Logic Pro X, https://www.apple.com/uk/logic-pro/ for anyone who couldn't afford Pro Tools and using Mac's, is without doubt a God send.

What it has over Avid's flagship DAW is two major advantages, price and no elaborate copy protection system. Since Logic Pro X 10.1 is an App Store download, you can install it on any machine you're registered on with Apple. It can now top 35GB for the full download, but you can get started with much less as the basic install. There's no hardware or software copy protection as said, and your purchase is safely stored in the cloud in case you ever need to reinstall it.

For the relatively small price, $199 | £127, compared to others, it comes fully featured, lacking nothing that would deter any musical recording and with the latest update 10.1 it now gets a full UI makeover, a much needed makeover. In fact, for most, it was the only gripe that could be attached to it.

Another added bonus if you haven't used it before and have an iPad, the Logic Remote app turns your tablet into a remote control for all of Logic Pro X's major functions. For example, you can record tracks with on-screen keyboards, guitar fretboards, or other smart composition tools pulled directly from GarageBand on the iPad.

You can make fader moves and control the transport as well, of course. But what's most interesting is that the iPad becomes the front end for Logic Pro X, if you want it to be. You can control your entire Logic Pro X-based studio from the couch.

Logic Pro X, whislt not hailing it as the best DAW ever, with it faults and quirks, like every other DAW, certainly comes close. If you where to award it purley on value for money, for what it does for the price, then it would beat them all hands down. The new update is simply wonderful and in using it as your studio's go to recording application, you'll never feel under powered or lacking professionally in front of any client.

On a footnote; There is now a new contender to challenge both Avid and Apple in the world of Mac DAW's and that's what I'll discuss next.
